Top business experts give advice to local businesses

More than 100 local business owners packed the University of Wollongong's Loftus Campus to take part in the How to Build a Better Business Conference (14 September) - the Shire's contribution to Small Business September.

The Mayor of Sutherland Shire, Councillor Kevin Schreiber and the Minister for Regional Development, Hon. David Campbell were joined by a range of high profile speakers including Paul Cave (Chairman and Founder of BridgeClimb) and Serenity Cove Studios' CEO, Kingston Anderson.

'On a typical workday in the Sutherland Shire, more than 65,000 people - two thirds of working residents - leave the Shire by car and public transport to go to their place of work,' said the Mayor of Sutherland Shire, Councillor Kevin Schreiber.

'This mass exodus takes money out of the local economy and has detrimental environmental and social impacts.

'This conference is one of many initiatives undertaken by Sutherland Shire Council to help Shire-based businesses grow, prosper and ultimately create local employment opportunities.'

Other speakers included Glenn Cochrane (Westfield Miranda), Brian Cloney (Speaking professional and business advisor) and Phillip Scott ( School of Management and Marketing at University of Wollongong ).

The conference was supported by Sutherland Shire Council, University of Wollongong , the SSHED Business Accelerator, NSW Department of State and Regional Development, Commonwealth Bank and Toyota .
